"Don't ever lose faith in who you are, for that's what makes you different.
Don't try to turn yourself into someone everyone else is, for if that happens, the world is a poorer place."
- Sept 2005
it feels wrong. i know it feels very chauvinistic, but i don't really enjoy the feeling of being ferried around by a lady. no discredit to her, she's someone i hold dear, a very dear friend of mine. but i just can't get used to the feeling. looking at things from the passengers perspective suddenly brings me back 2 years, probably about the last time i sat in a passenger seat, other than hitching a ride from alan or a taxi.
it won't happen once i graduate. i promise myself that. I know it's very chauvinistic, and it might just cause an uproar. but that's how i feel, and it can only serve to motivate me ahead. the next time i am in a passenger seat, i will be a willing and happy person.
I've decided, i want a job which will allow me to wear a suit to work everyday, with slick leather shoes and a dapper leather attache case. traipaising around london for one day in a suit just shows the regard people have to the suit. back in singapore it probably means a different thing, but nonetheless, the dream remains the same.
singapore no longer bears the attraction it holds. when i thought there was so much to return for, i found nothing. the beauty, the culture, the allure of the western frontiers nonetheless retain the lustre and glitter i have often found wanting in the singaporean context.
it does not mean that i've lost my love for my homeland, it does not mean i'm any less a friend to the people i hold dear here, but what it does mean is that i no longer see my future in singapore. perhaps it's time to prepare myself for the jet-setting, globe-trotting lifestyle that comes with a high-powered position of influence.
sounds haughty? think as you may, but i retain my dream. the me that dreamed of simple pleasures and the beauty of affection has been lost to the tribulations of the materialistic world we live in. but even as i say this, something i once said rings in my mind. No matter how successful a person i become, i will never forget how it is to be humble, to be simple, to be ordinary, for i was once one. it still holds true, no matter what.
