ARMY SHOWCASES LATEST WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTIONBy: Kay Gee Correspondent THE ARMY yesterday gave the latest addition to its deadly armoury a public viewing. The KOTEX long range projectile has the capability to wipe out human object within a radius of one kilometer, especially if launched from the NKYAM launch pad. Present at the two-hour demonstration at Suntec City Tropics Mall were senior officers from the United Countries, defence sciences authority and the Ministry of Military. Leading the demonstration was Professor (MAJ) Notti Yeam, who spent six months developing the prototype and preparing the unique ammunition, called PADS, which she explains to contain colouring and ammonium sulphate. "This projectile is most effective in close combat, as the NKYAM launch pad is designed as a quick loading mechanism with a hurl range of between 1 meter and up to 25 kilometres. It is designed to be especially effective against soldiers who score between three and four firsts for the proficiency (Level 1) tests," said the veteran designer. "It also fires at a rate of 40 PADS per minute and has an accuracy of 100% within the designated range." The alloted "victims" during the demonstration, who suffered the full effects of the projectile, agreed that the new weapon is one of the deadliest military weapons in existence. One of them, 3SG Moo Teh, 22, says that the after effects of the dispersal of the pad was "traumatic" and causes "great mental disturbance", which will result in a sense of disorientation for the soldier. Another demonstrator, 3SG Shio Hor Sua, 22, says that the weapon's greatest strength is its rapid launching capability and its fearsome reputation within military circles. Indeed, rumours of the existence of such a weapon has been circulating in military forums on the internet. One international commentator even noted that the mere sight of a NKYAM launcher being moved around is sufficient to elicit mass desertions among the opposing forces. London-based weapons specialist Ms Rug Bi, is intrigued by the advancement the local military has made with the KOTEX weapons system. "Absurd lah! I have yet to see something like it," noted the seasoned observer. "It will be interesting to see its effects in combat." "Another good point about the system is the cost efficiency of each PAD, which costs 25 cents per projectile. This can only mean more savings for the military. These savings can be routed to more worthy causes, such as the N.K. Fund." Commenting on the fearsome reputation of the weapons system, Professor Yeam says that she is "happy" with the progress of the weapon, and will aim to continually improve the effectiveness of the projectile. One area she will be looking at is to increase the launch capability to 60 PADS per minute.
