In My Words

"Don't ever lose faith in who you are, for that's what makes you different.
Don't try to turn yourself into someone everyone else is, for if that happens, the world is a poorer place."

-----------------------------------------------------

German aside, it's the last day of the holidays and i must say this has been one of my slightly more productive holidays. it does not say a lot because my holidays have never been productive and it's not a very hard act to match. i'm a little sad that it's all coming to an end, primarily because it'll be back to organised studying tomorrow. but my friends will all be back and i can start speaking again. i have not spoken for the longest time! so much so that i've probably forgotten how to talk. but that's nonsense and you know it. but it's true. i haven't spoken to someone for some time. not beyond the usual "good days" or "heya" or "thanks" and "excuse me".

it's going to be a crucial term for me. I HEREBY PROMISE that i will not screw up this term, nor the next because my entire career depends on these silly six months. seems like a good exchange, six months for the next 6 decades (i hope so at least). so if you don't see me online all that often, you know what i'm doing. don't blame me for it, or start saying that Kelvin is a mugger / anti-social / weirdo, because all i'm doing is fighting for my future and i think i should be doing it. so haha. it won't be an empty promise this time round because. haha. 3 rejections is a little hard to take.

now for my blog topic today.

Gays.

i was walking back from bankside (went there to pass something to a friend) and i was walking along victoria embankment. i was walking briskly as i wanted to be back home fast to get down to doing proper stuff when i suddenly found myself shuffling around. why so. in front of me i saw two people holding hands. on closer inspection of the rear silhouttes, they were both male. so my usual homophobic self slowed down and kept my distance.

now my question to myself is, does their different sexual orientation make them any different from me, and any less a human being deserving of proper regard? in all honesty, they are different from me cos i'm straight (yes, that also puts to rest any rumours that i'm gay) , but in all honesty, they are also human beings. should they be shunned and treated as outcasts because of their preferences?

take for example, if i choose to be a follower of the uber-faith now, Kabbalah. because i exercise a choice of my own preference and comfort, and i'm different from others, does that give others a right to ostracise me? or let's say i choose to stay at home rather than go out and party. does that make me an inferior human being? in all objectiveness, nope.
so what is the whole hullaballo about gay culture?

ok, it's really pretty gross the whole idea about stuffing something up the arse, but i think i'm a little mistaken then. like there are single-sex marriages which are never consummated, not all single sex relationships involve alternative sex. some do, but the greater majority don't. but what i think i fear most is having someone of the same gender trying to grope my immensely attractive bottom, or tickle my earlobes. look, if given by a lady, these are perfectly fine things to me, probably even enjoyable, but given by a man, it's downright GROSS.

the thing is, some gays act like normal people. they have a proper life and conduct themselves properly. these are usually the manly side of the gay couple. what i'm particularly afraid of is the girly side of the gay couple. they get touchy feely, brush against you even though you're just a friend, take the occasional playful slap on my oh-so-gorgeous bum. urgh. it has not happened before and i DO NOT want to go through the nightmare of having to go through one.

and so, i recoil at the sight of gays. and avoid them like the plague (the sight of the two gays having a nice french kiss at trafalgar square during NY countdown last year still sticks in my mind).

BUT, my question to myself is, do they deserve to be treated like this? my honest answer is no. but i still do.

so what is the moral of the story? i think it's "People look down on others who aren't like them" How true is this? you tell me. and tell me, is it fair?
