"Don't ever lose faith in who you are, for that's what makes you different.
Don't try to turn yourself into someone everyone else is, for if that happens, the world is a poorer place."

I was supposed to blog about scholars and some stuff about them today but I figured that such an evergreen topic can wait for the moment. I shall blog about something more current.
I love reading the newspapers. I feel so damm smart and so up to date with current affairs BECAUSE I bother to read the newspapers. Sometimes I feel it's quite sad that we come all the way to the UK to study in a bid to broaden our horizons, but because of cost and sometimes laziness, we don't read newspapers. that's what I call ironic. We become obliberated from the world and become ignorant.
But before I digress, back to the main point. I want to blog about something I read in the newspapers.
Yesh! Good old Wacko Jacko is facing some paedophalic charge once more. but that's not the point. have a good look at the photo above. beside the "sex" columm.. there's this RAC columm, which I will presume to mean race. it puts B. which i will presume to mean Black. and we see this horribly jaundiced, malnourished, surgically "enhanced" face in the photo beside. the most ignorant person would look at it and laugh.
Second point. Prince Harry. bless that geezer. he's in trouble for wearing a nazi armband to a friends' party. he was photographed and somehow pictures got to the tabloids and reputable newspapers, and just as i thought i'd be done with the tsunami, i get swamped in harry-obia. no. i don't mind potter-omia but not harry-obia.
Poor boy got castigated for being insensitive to the holocaust victims and he's going to have a little tete-a-tete with the chief rabbi on tuesday. now. let's look at this objectively. is this happening just because he's prince harry or is it happening because he's prince harry. no. no typo mistakes.
if let's say i decide to take my fascination with german and the like a little further and wear a nazi armband to school everyday, i doubt i'll be castigated by the media and condemmed by everyone. because i'm 'ol insignificant kelvin goh. but because he's harry windsor, being under the media spotlight (because they might be expecting a new royal soon if harry isn't careful), people notice and scrutinise what he does. what would be acceptable when done by an insignificant person like me would not be acceptable if it was done by him.
now i ask you. the act being objective, what sort of sense / reasoning is that? it's like giving an A to an exam script written by a chiobu and a grumbled C for one written by me. shouldn't happen. or should it.
Now. as Prince Harry, he's received the best education a brit can get (Eton nonetheless), a proper (if not exactly perfect) upbringing and being a symbol of britain, shouldn't he possess some form of propriety and moderation to the side he presents to the public? he has been pillored for smoking pot, having wild parties at nightclubs and the like, and been similarly hung out to dry for those. but apparently he hasn't dried yet. if i was a royal, i think i should have some good sense to behave like one and be conscious of the image i'm projecting. like how i always bore in mind that whatever i do in life is being representative of my parents and the entire goh family, and what i did as a PRO last year was as the face of singsoc, and of the LSE. so i did try (maybe not entirely successfully) to fulfill that role properly.
Harry has got big social responsibilities by virtue of his birth. with great power comes great responsibility. he ain't no spiderman as yet. (interesting how Fathers-for-Justice omitted dressing up as spidey. they chose Batty.)
And some thing about his delayed entry into Sandhurst Academy, the local equivalent of OCS (or so i'm told). i'm not too sure. when you sign on as a career soldier here, do you get streamed straight into OCS or BMTC? why do common folk start off as a foot soldier pounding the beats in iraq while fresh graduates dive straight into Sandhurst. makes no sense. oh. he's a Prince.
now. nevermind about that. he's been chaogenging!according to the sandhurst people, good ol harry has delayed his entry into sandhurst because of severe swelling in the knee. oh poor boy. but he apparently has enough in him to go skiing, and is trying to qualify for an instructor qualification in that. i'm thinking. some people can really get away with everything.
paddy harverson handled his fair share of petulant people during his days at manchester united. beckham, dwight yorke, keano, bosnich.... looks like he's got a mountain to climb here.
Respect - (refer to previous blog)
and the moral of the story. sometimes people behave the way they do because of a strong underlying reason. it may not be the person they truly are. so always do try to see beyond the facade to realise the true essence of the person within, for better or for worse.
yes, i will not judge a person by the superficialities in future.
