In My Words

"Don't ever lose faith in who you are, for that's what makes you different.
Don't try to turn yourself into someone everyone else is, for if that happens, the world is a poorer place."

London School of Economics
Summer Term Exam 2005

MA099
Elementary Mathematical Methods and Analysis

Time allowed : 3 hours

Items provided : Abacus and a bag of marbles for use with arithmetic techniques.

Section A (100 Marks)

Kelvin, a student at the LSE is preparing for his law examinations. Assuming that he has spent X number of hours preparing for the examination, and the amount of knowledge he has garnered from the X hours of studying is Y, answer the following questions.

A) The amount of studying Kelvin's classmates do, G, is represented by the equation G= X(2+X) . Plot out the curve against relevant axes and determine the meeting points of a X=1(X) curve against the G curve. Plot out the meeting points if any and determine the value of X when the curves meet.

B) The knowledge Kelvin is expected to attain by 16th May 2005 is represented by the figure F. An analytical analysis by the LSE Maths department shows that the average LSE student learns at the rate of F = 1/2YX. Kelvin however realises that he is currently absorbing information at the rate of F = 3/86YX. Assuming that Kelvin spends 16 hours awake, what is the value of X he has to achieve to meet the standards expected by the school.

Use of abacus and marbles is allowed in this question.

I am a little upset. Everyone knows I love my books. guess what, i saw a faceless book today. I am not sure why it's now faceless and I sure hope it's not my book that i saw, but if it is, I definitely made the wrong decision this time round. sigh.

BB feels different now. The company is still nice, but it just feels different.

I'm going to take a break for a while, and go into a recluse. if you see me you see me. heh. if you don't, it probably means that I'm mugging myself crazy.

take care people....
