"Don't ever lose faith in who you are, for that's what makes you different.
Don't try to turn yourself into someone everyone else is, for if that happens, the world is a poorer place."
- Sept 2005
2005 has been a good year for me, largely so. After a tough 2004, 2005 provided much cheer and joy in many forms, and I count my blessings.
Soulmates such as flatmate, teddy and twix have remained constants in my life in cold, dreary London, and they remained there even when we returned to sunny Singapore.
Friends such as pimpledpig, umbrella and mummylonglegs have been there for me whenever I need them, and I am glad that 2005 gave us so much more opportunity to get to know each other and to savour wonderful times.
And of course, there are so many other people who I call friends, and I have had wonderful times with in 2005. If I were to make a list of you this entry will never end, but you know who you are, and you are no less special to me.
2005 also brought me great strides forward academically. 10 years ago I was a pretty hopeless case languishing in the throes of Poly or ITE, but 2005 brought me my first firsts at the LSE, and put me in good stead to graduate in 2006 with a degree that I till today, have only dreamed about.
Childhood friends will know that one of my biggest dreams was to be a published writer, and 2005 brought me Natalie and the wonderful YouthInk team at The Straits Times. The feeling of having nearly a million people reading your name, and your words, that's something words (ironically) can't describe. It's been a wonderful journey journalistically, and I'm grateful to 2005 for bringing it to me.
I'm going to make a break with tradition, my own and traditionally, and not make any resolutions this year. Carebear told me that resolutions are useless, and come to think of it, I agree. But I have one wish, just one wish.
That 2006 will be, for me, a happy year. That's all I ask for.
